Micro-Forecast: February 1 to 7, 2021

February 1, 2021

Mercury the planet of communication continues its retrograde motion until February 20. I usually relish Mercury in Aquarius because it is the exalted sign in which Mercury finds itself but…it feels like a light switch that is on one day and off the next with the current Mercury retrograde. Since Aquarius is often connected to technological issues, please, please, please check your electronics right now. If your intuition has been telling you to ‘check’ something like that sound in your computer, or that on and off static in your television or you have a gnawing message always coming through to check if your website is working, then please check it.

If you’ve been considering changing your security measures for a long time, do that. Hackers are unleashed quite often when not only is Mercury retrograde but when it happens to be butting heads with chaotic Uranus throughout the month. This month also happens to be the first of three closing squares between Saturn (government, construction, rules, regulations, courts) and Uranus (revolutions, chaos, insight, innovation). This closing square position is vastly different than an opening square.

Closing squares, especially between Saturn and Uranus, a 45-year cycle, means that we are closing out a lot of old thinking, that ‘things’ or ‘issues’ that have been left ignored are surfacing for a final clearing out, so we are ready for a brand-new cycle when Saturn and Uranus again meet in 2032. This year is a turning point in consciousness and the time to decide between Saturn (rules that do work) and Uranus (out of the box solutions) and coming up with a unique solution to an ordinary challenge.

The last closing square between these two was approximately 45 years ago around 1976. Some of you reading this may not have even been born, but for the rest of us, we stood in gas lines on alternating days to get gas for our cars, President James Carter was president after Gerald Ford who came after Nixon who resigned in 1974 because of Watergate.

Between that time and 1988 when the next Saturn Uranus conjunction would take place, personal computers were just developing. We started to see the Apple 2+ in the late 1970s. We didn’t have cell phones and email was not even a blink in the public’s eye. Remember AOL? AOL didn’t even begin until the 1980s.

A lot was in development, but we didn’t see it as is the case now. We were focused on the difficulties accompanying the recession following the Vietnam war. We have been in a kind of war this year with the pandemic, lost jobs, and now the increased civil unrest and challenges to our government. Unrest is often part of these extraordinary times.

When Saturn and Uranus are at a hard angle to each other like they are this year, it is important to simplify and most importantly — do whatever it takes to get out of debt. It is also important to shed what isn’t working for your personal and professional success. Taking charge of something missing and learning more about that ‘something’ helps advance you in a positive direction. Perhaps there is something you are curious about and which you’ve avoided. Stopped avoiding and begin to learn. Baby steps create giant leaps.

The pandemic has blown open the opportunities for online learning so taking a course, many of which are free. YouTube is a vast treasure trove of how to learn this or than — from fixing your plumbing to learning to make chain mail! Get off the television and read things that are relevant. I love the Smithsonian magazine which is always filled with all types of discoveries that I never even knew existed. This creates new brain patterns. If you tend to fixate on certain types of reading like non-fiction, then shake it up and switch to fiction — and engage a different part of the brain. Read what futurists are talking about to spark more ideas and build roads to new possibilities. There is a lot going on this month, a lot of unexpected events along with many breakthroughs. I prefer to focus on the breakthroughs.

It is a month of highly charged energy especially with Uranus which is running remarkably close to Mars, which is the action planet, and often overly reactive planet. Use the energy in a positive way — step away from the computer, go for a walk. Step away from 24-hour texts and take a day where you turn all electronics off. You may not have to do it consciously since we may also get a lot of power outages during this time and this year. Watch the news for only one hour max a day, then cook a meal rather than order out — read a recipe and execute it. Change it up and you change you and your perspective of ‘how things are’. The important thing is to keep in balance the holy trinity of the mind, the body, and the spirit.
