This mp4 video file is a presentation of Georgia’s chapter in the new OPA book, The Professional Astrologer, which is available at our website for $20. The video, however, is about making your practice financially viable. Even though the book is geared towards astrologers, this presentation (and most of the excellent book released in 2016) is useful for anyone in a self-employed industry, particularly anything that is holistic in nature — hypnotherapy, attunement, and any industry that assists people in finding a deeper part of themselves. Georgia’s presentation is the ‘nuts and bolts’ of how to make that viable, from building a business plan to budgeting to knowing what to do around self-employed taxes. Worth a look and fun learning while watching.
In 2008, we had one of the worst meltdowns in recent history–in the market and in real estate. Today, only 7 years later, the real estate market is soaring. Will things change during 2016 or 2017? Go back and listen to Georgia Stathis’ lecture in May, 2008 about the then developing scams, prices, etc. Some of it may ring very true!!
I have been traveling a lot these last few months — thus the delay in putting out this column, but I must admit that, in fact, it has been difficult wrapping my head around the news, the transits, the cycles, because so much is happening at the same time. It feels like a three-ring circus with jugglers, lions, tigers, bears, trapeze artists, you name it. I could attribute this to the culminating final two squares between Uranus and Pluto of which much has been written, but somehow that didn’t feel like the entire story. So rather than writing anything, I waited until I had a better handle on some of the new cycles that began at the end of last year.
One of them is, of course, the ingress of Saturn into Sagittarius last December, something that only happens about every 29.5 years and is, in fact, a very different energy package than the presiding Saturn in Scorpio of the last 3 years. It is far less jammed up than Saturn in Scorpio, which allows for movement, but by the same token, it also is an ‘in your face’ reality check about truth versus belief, freedom versus responsibility, and careful expression versus unfiltered spouting without thought of repercussions. And to qualify that last remark, I absolutely believe in freedom of speech, one of the most endearing of our freedoms. Continue reading →
On September 4, news of the beheading of 31 year old journalist, Steven Sotloff was disturbing to me as was James Foley’s execution a couple of weeks ago. These young men, doing their jobs as reporters shows that there is an open season of ‘bull baiting’ by the terrorist group known as ISIS though killing journalists in the field violates all international law. It seems they will stop at nothing to get the USA to react. My thoughts and prayers go out to their families for the loss of these very young men who were doing their jobs while trying to weed out the truth in a chasm of propaganda. A few weeks ago, I listened to a forum where James Foley, an alumnus of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism (where I am also alum) discusses what he went through two weeks after he was released from a Libyan prison back in 2011. This YouTube video presents a fascinating interview in 2011 with Foley and is worth watching. He thoughtfully presents what a reporter in the field goes through in that part of the world.
James, a graduate of Medill in 2008, talks about his experience as well as his lack of experience in the field, the lessons he learned as a result of his arrest, and discusses his then naiveté that journalists were immune from any intervention by opposition forces because they were journalists. He discusses his 44 days in the Libyan prison, his experiences talking with others interred there that were arrested for speaking out within their country, the sharing of struggles, his fears, his faith and his release. This interview takes place just two or three weeks after his then release from the Libyan prison.
The day before his arrest in Libya he had been with rebel forces in the field covering the stories. When faced with what they thought was crossfire, he stood up and yelled, “Sahafee — which is Journalist — in Arabic”. A few minutes before that his colleague and photographer Anton yelled, “Help”, and was never heard from again. The rest fell apart. Foley was 37 years old at the time of the Northwestern interview. He was well trained. He was a teacher before returning to Northwestern’s Medill school for a graduate degree in Journalism. He attended various courses and boot camps preparing him for his work as a “conflict reporter”. He attended a Washington Program for international reporters who are threatened with hostile environments.
After this interview in 2011, he returned to the field, was again arrested while reporting in the field in Syria on November 22, 2012 and executed (by beheading) on or around August 19, 2014. Foley was born on October 18, 1993. Today, one of his colleagues and fellow journalist was kidnapped in Aleppo by ISIS a few months ago and became the second victim of this heinous crime. Like Foley, Steven Sotloff was young and was born May 11, 1983.
“The Committee to Protect Journalists reports at least 70 journalists, including Foley, have died covering the conflict in Syria since 2011. Of those nearly half — 46 percent — were freelance reporters, which is significantly higher than the percentage of freelance journalists killed worldwide. In 2011, 2012 and 2013, one-third of journalists killed worldwide were freelancers”
In looking at the chart of the USA, I tried to decipher where this nightmare lives in our current reality. Mercury is often associated with the news and reporting. The third and ninth houses of a horoscope are associated with reporting both nationally and internationally. Mercury, ironically, is also associated with commerce, trading, and exchange of information–the markets, which seem to be burgeoning at the present time — at least until today. In trying to understand why this is happening and whether it will continue to happen, my view is that it will. Though killing journalists in the field who are not engaged in any military activity is against international law, it seems that this safety measure is no longer viable. The world is out of control.
The group named ISIS is an extreme terrorist group which is currently bullbaiting the United States and its allies with these violent acts in order to get a reaction. My view in looking at the charts of the USA is that this will continue. Whether the USA reacts or not, or, is more strategic in its response is still to be seen. With its strong Mars in its chart, one of its lessons is to learn to think before it acts and have an effective plan B, which is always the lesson of any prominent Mars in a chart.
I looked at both the USA chart and its Antiscia points (the reflection points of the various signs from either the Winter or Summer Solstice points (00°Capricorn and 00° Cancer). The drawing below shows the graph for easy reference and for those interested. In other words, the USA chart’s natal Sun sign is at 13° Cancer 19′. Its Antiscia (solstice point) is 16° Gemini 40′. Note how if you add these together, you get 30°. The USA natal Saturn is at 14° Libra 48′ and its Antiscia point is at 15° Pisces 11′. If a transit hits either the natal planet itself, or, its Antiscia point, it is considered to be or have the same impact.
I am also including a bi-wheel in this article with the natal chart of the USA in the middle and the Antiscia points of the USA chart on the outside wheel. It is as follows:
Following this logic, I asked myself where this terrible series of events happening in the USA chart falls. The obvious is there, of course, we have had several eclipses at 14°Libra or Aries squaring the USA Sun and conjuncting the USA Saturn and we have another two coming up in October 2014 as well as in April 2015 close to the same degrees. Saturn is the classical ruler of Aquarius which falls on the USA third house — a journalist house — and that might be part of this. It also rules the second but for the purposes of this article, we are focusing on the third.
However, when we review the Antiscia chart and the transits to it, throughout 2014 transit Neptune has squared the USA Antiscia Mercury at 5° Gemini 48′ on March 15, 2014, again on September 12, 2014 and again on January 15, 2015. Transiting Chiron conjuncts USA Antiscia Saturn (our government as well as the ruler of the USA third) at 15° Pisces 11′ starting on April 2, 2014, September 12, 2014, and again on February 11, 2015.
The list goes on and on as well as the list of upcoming direct transits to the Natal USA planets like transit Pluto opposing the natal Sun starting on January 5, 2015; transiting Pluto squaring USA Saturn (government and third house ruler) starting February 21, 2015 and transiting Saturn semi-square USA natal Saturn on December 21, 2014, and through the summer and early fall of 2015.
In looking at the Solar Arcs which usually require a very close aspect (giving them about a six month window on either side), Solar Arc Mercury of the USA chart is square the USA Mars on April 21 2015, a symbolic signature for the distressing ‘beheading of our journalists” as well as some intricate parlaying with the stock markets and trading. As a former journalist, this series of stories has been distressing. It seems as Saturn gets closer and closer to its ingress into Sagittarius on December 23, 2014, the issue of fighting for the truth regardless of our fear will be more important than ever in recent history. I think our journalists who gave their lives for truth would agree.
Georgia and Kelly Surtees are co-teaching a class entitled, Moving the Chart Forward for www.Kepler.edu starting at the end of September. Kelly will cover secondary progressed movements in the first half and Georgia teaches the second half which explores the technique of Solar Arcs. Georgia also presents a workshop and a class at the October 23, 2014 SOTA conference in Niagara Falls, New York. The workshop is on Business Astrology and the class is on Synodic Cycles. Georgia also teaches a class on Antiscia for the Breaking Down the Borders online conference in mid-November. For more detailed registration information for all events click here.

Here’s to the heroes and heroines, risk takers and optimists. Here’s to those who fall down, get up and keep going. Kudos to those knowing how to help and to those who don’t have a clue, but do it anyway. Congratulations to those who step up when they usually don’t. Bravo, thank you and well done.
When we showed up on the planet in this form called life, no one said it was easy. They didn’t give you a manual on how to run your life and everyone had to figure it out regardless of circumstances. And in the end there is no guarantee on how anyone turns out. Sometimes the worst circumstances create the greatest human beings and the best circumstances beget the worst individuals. This will never be perfect world, but within all of us there is a perfection yearning to come out. How connected we are to something greater than the Self has a lot to do with how perfection emerges and the place it starts is from the heart.
The events of the last weeks and the last months reflect the above comments. For me, personally, I’m coming back from another personal loss in my life, the loss of my dear father, who has always been an inspiration and with much help and support and heart am slowly stepping out again. For those who are directly or indirectly affected by the more horrific events in Boston and other American cities, the above also holds true. Reconnecting with heart can take us far as we move through this very difficult time.
On today’s news, I heard an incredible statistic that in just the last two weeks a fund has been raised for the Boston victims tallying to some $20 million dollars! From both companies and private citizens, this is an amazing number. The same idea germinated in the Newton, Connecticut tragedy but the ‘form’ of those donations is still being tweaked so that victims of that specific tragedy are still moving through the logistics. The upshot of all this chaos (and it is chaos) is that there is now an idea forming of a National Compassion Fund! Yes, right from the news just this morning, April 24, on the eve of tomorrow’s Full Moon Lunar Eclipse.
This eclipse and the subsequent two others on May 9 and then May 25 are signals in the road for changes around letting go of old, outworn values in order for a greater transformation to change. Our challenge is to take what is bad and make something good out of it. Sometimes that happens when we find ourselves walking through fire, Tomorrow’s eclipse is in the zone of what we astrologers call the Via Combusta, or, the Fiery Way!
This is the portion of the tropical zodiac that falls between 15° Libra and 15° Scorpio. Most people watch as the Moon lands in this each month, or, is found in a natal chart. However, other planets passing through this portion of the zodiac teach all of us to walk through fire by changing our perspective and our thinking. Years ago there were many programs coming up where people learned to walk on fire after an intense training engaging their minds over their matter.
One of the challenges of the current cycle forces a heightened awareness and vigilance, which isn’t necessarily comfortable. But at the same time it forces a greater awareness, tolerance, motivation to help like those heroes and heroines of recent weeks. Something inside calls the hero home. Out of limitation, fear, darkness, comes a doorway leading to, as someone said, ‘an unwilling passage’. The choice is yours. Pluto rules Scorpio because it rules choice….do you want to go where there is dark and find light regardless of what price you pay, or, do you move further into loneliness and darkness? Choice is always ours.
When a challenging planet like Saturn passes through these degrees of the zodiac accompanied, in this case, by some of the eclipses of 2013 and 2014, then there is no recourse but to face those shadows. As Alice Howell said in her wonderful book, Jungian Symbolism and Astrology, when referring to Pluto (Scorpio). What would have really happened if, in fact, in the story of Sleeping Beauty, the parents had invited the bad witch to the party along with all the good fairies of the kingdom? Would she have cursed the child to die, or, would she have been less deadly because she was invited?
Think about this over the course of the next few months as the eclipses begin traveling through this very important and life changing passage for individuals, companies, and countries. Do you walk through the unlit passage of your consciousness or conscience, or, do you retreat deeper into a cave of isolation? Do we ban together creating positive visions that are greater than the self, or, just retreat into the same old, same old? How will you invite your ‘bad witch to the party’? unfold 90days later on in late July, early and late August of 2013 as well as October 18 and November by a series of eclipses which always show the ‘shadow’ of society, this presents an opportunity to find the light in the darkness like those who are banning together at the present time to help the victims of the very recent city tragedies throughout the USA. Lots of questions arise around things like insurance (Scorpio rules insurance) and how health insurance covers unexpected things as loss of limbs — which are climbing in greater numbers with the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and now, Boston. Prosthetics are often the last thing insurance companies cover — but now they have to face it where they continue through late November 2013 and where could also be found between November 1981 to November 1984.
From an astrological standpoint, Via Combusta, is the tropical degree pattern between 15° Libra and 15°Scorpio, where Saturn, the planet of perceived limitation is traveling until the end of 2013. Saturn in Scorpio for everyone is the fear of being vulnerable, of being abandoned, of being left, of not trusting and not asking for help in the hopes of self-preservation. The events of the last few weeks and months illustrate that struggle in all of us as we move through unexpected life events that can either tear up our souls or strengthen them.
The Friday before the Boston Marathon catastrophe, Pluto went retrograde (appears to be going backwards) at a degree that is very close to the USA Sun sign, which is at 13 Cancer 01′. Pluto was very close to that Sun Sign (Pluto: 11° Capricorn 35′), but not exact as yet.
The influence of a retrograde Pluto happening close to three consecutive eclipses happening on April 25, May 9 and May 24…turn our thoughts to where we are stuck, fearful, and need to take some sort of heroic action for change. Looking at the dark part, the part that isn’t working in ourselves, our businesses or business practices, our friendships, our families and communities and network associations, takes courage. With Mars, the archetypal warrior, very close to the eclipse degree (5° Scorpio and 5° Taurus) of April 25, action separates us from the past and moves us into the future.
Years ago when I taught Storytelling and Myth, I often referred to one of my mentors, Wendy Ashley, who wrote a great deal on the wounding indicators of Mars. In Joseph Campbell’s work on the Heroes Journey he also spoke about how the warrior energy separates the individual from the clan, the tribe and they are thrust into the jungle alone and face the dragons alone. This is the walkabout, the journey, the search for self-actualization that often comes from some sort of severing or tragedy or separation. Could it be possible that horrific events are the eruptive energy of the collective interior of change? [Current note from Georgia in April 2014: With another square between Uranus and Pluto occurring in April 2014 along with the two eclipses of April 2014 could there finally be some sort of resolution or restitution? Will political shenanigans be revealed? Will right become right? Only time will tell. Meantime, take some time to smell the roses…they are there regardless of what is going on around us.]

Speed has become a way of life, a way of thinking, a way of doing business. Thirty plus years ago when the personal computer became accessible to us the thought was that it would give us more time, because the computer was going to do all those time consuming details, like writing your bills in a ledger, writing letters or thesis’ on a typewriter, or keeping track of your contacts in those old fashioned address books. However, to the contrary, speed has not only created the reverse of this idea, but has cost us more money in postage, equipment and slick, digitalized equipment. Speed seduces us into thinking we will think better, look better, get things done faster, be more to more people we can access our groceries, our machines, our clothes and anything else on the internet. We can also buy and sell our stocks on the internet.
When companies like Charles Schwab, Ameritrade, and E trade to name a few formed platforms upon which we, the individual, could bypass our brokers and buy and sell either stocks and equities by day or by the year, we all jumped on board. Whether or not the markets were affected by a bunch of people who really didn’t understand trading, price earnings ratios, or volatility, I think they were. If you get someone going in and out of the market without any type of true understanding, it seems that it would increase the volatility or the improbability of positive outcomes. However, the need for speed has entered an entirely new dimension in the form of High Frequency Trading.
High Frequency Trading has increased markedly in the last ten years. At this writing, there is no real regulation although it has been proposed in the past and is in the news again as one book, Michael Lewis’ “Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt” gains traction in publicity. High Frequency Trading (HFT) has been around for a while, but it is really unchartered territory on so many levels, particularly with regular folks who need to understand the concept. Flash crashes, as they are called, have occurred more and more frequently. Some of the more publicized ones were the one on May 6, 2010. Another one resulted from a fictional tweet stating the White House had been assaulted, shutting down the market and losing millions in just a matter of minutes, and then there was the three hour shutdown of the NASDAQ occurring on August 22, 2013. This last shutdown was because of an outage or some technical problem and the wisdom of shutting it down for three hours (without rushing to open it again) was wise. Whether flash crashes are caused because of outages, tweets, false information or algorithms gone awry, the fact remains that we are not in Kansas anymore!
HFT is computerized, algorithmic trading, which now accounts for about half of all U.S. equity-trading volume on some of the large exchanges. Billions of dollars are invested to set up these computer banks and there is a lot of debate about whether or not without realizing it, they are actually rigging the market. It isn’t done consciously, but the fact is that the machines to thinking and analysis that no human brain can do and therein lies the rub. The everyday buys and the sells either with our brokers or directly online (bypassing the agent or broker) cannot possibly match the speed at which these calculations occur or the orders can be processed. HFT programs run to front of the line, before our everyday brokers, or our trades on some of the above mentioned sites even get to the desk.
On Friday April 4, US Attorney General Eric Holder stated that it is possible that HFT falls in the category of scams and insider trading. However, because this is considerably new and like any other technology all the things that could go wrong have not been examined because all the issues have not been revealed – because it is so new. When they bombed the World Trade Center on 9/11 we had not had that experience. When one doesn’t have the experience, one learns as the experience unfolds. This is all pretty new, but it bears watching. In March New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, for one, likened high-frequency traders’ speed advantage to insider trading. He repeated the same thing just a few days ago stating it was insider trading 2.0.
However, this isn’t the only problem, the other problem is the fact that these are machines calculating at speeds faster than anyone can imagine and machines can burn out, short out, or shut down. If a high percentage of market trades are occurring using this technology, then more than ever markets are at risk. Certain jobs are at risk too. Can it be the stock broker, the day trader, the investment consultant can soon be jobs of the past going into extinction like the dinosaurs after the ice age. I mean, how much speed do we really need? Mahatma Gandhi very wisely stated, “There is more to life than increasing its speed.” In the age of Red Bull, Instagram, and massive texts that replace conversations and discussions, and smartphones and tablets that give instant answers that may provide information contains loose relationships with the truth, you really have to wonder. Do we have such a need to get to the head of the line that we forget the process or the journey?
Below are three charts for the above mentioned charts. The first is the Flash Crash of May 6, 2010 which started at 2:42 pm and ended at 3:07 pm prompting a suggestion by the then SEC Chairperson Mary Schapiro that perhaps there should be some sort of regulation with this unfamiliar new entity entering the marketplace. The second chart is the Flash Crash that resulted from a fictional tweet hoax stating that the White House had been attacked and that the President was injured. It occurred at 1:07 pm when all hell broke loose and in a matter of minutes millions were lost until it was revealed it was a hoax. In just a few minutes life returned to normal. And, finally, is the chart of the three hour shutdown of the NASDAQ on August 22, 2013 due to an outage, but who really knows? This caused that exchange to shut down for three hours. It shut down at 12:14:03 pm and then went back online at 3:25 pm. The decision was a wise one, perhaps the result of past crises where the markets went right back on line causing huge losses. I include these charts for your perusal, but, in the end, the question still remains…where are we going that we need to get there that fast?
This article is reprinted from The Mountain Astrologer, November 1993, and discusses the same Eclipses that are showing up in Scorpio in November 2013, and in Taurus in April 2014.
Where do they fall in your chart?
Whenever I begin a lecture or discussion on eclipses, I quote one of the more traditional astronomical definitions of eclipses, “There is a temporary loss of light and we see a shadow.” We who work with the world of symbols recognize this statement on many levels–light is that which we can see, and is associated with the Sun, which is the representation of our life and life path. The dark is the shadow, often associated with Pluto.
This month, on November 13, 1993, we will have the first in a 2-year series of solar eclipses in the signs of Scorpio and Taurus. This eclipse occurs at almost 22° Scorpio, the position at which Pluto stationed direct in early August this year. When this first Scorpio eclipse occurs, it will act as a preview of the “movies” which will appear regularly in 1994 and 1995.
On November 28,1993, we will begin to complete the energies of the recent series of Sagittarius and Gemini eclipses. The Full Moon lunar eclipse this November will be at 7°03′ Gemini.
Before we look at the specifics of these eclipses and how they will affect our individual charts, let’s explore eclipse “logistics” for more complete interpretations.
The eclipses always accompany the transiting lunar nodes. The ancient Chinese believed that when the Sun disappeared into the sky during a total eclipse, there was a giant dragon devouring it. Why would a dragon devour the Sun? Perhaps for fuel or food that would help it to grow and, thereby, require shedding its skin. This process is necessary, but painful.
The transiting north node is the “head” of the dragon, and shows how and where the dragon must dare the universe in the process of its growth. The same is true as to where the transiting north node is moving through our horoscopes–it is where we must focus. The opposing point, the south node, or “tail” of the dragon, shows where we are being asked to let go of old, outworn and comfortable patterns. It would be very easy to stay at the south node, but it is not there that we meet our greatest challenges.
Since the eclipses always accompany the Moon’s nodes, they have emotional distinctions: the solar eclipses, which occur at New Moons, trigger events in our lives, or force decisions that are very close to coming to a head; the lunar eclipses, which occur at Full Moons, have a kind of emotional breaking-out feeling about them– they act as emotional roto-rooters!
How Eclipses Affect Your Chart
The more precisely either a solar or lunar eclipse aspects a planet in your chart, especially in conjunction, square, or opposition, the more precise and life changing the events may be. The orb often used is 2°-to-3°. When an eclipse aspects a particular axis of your horoscope, this can also act as a catalyst for change in those areas of your life.
Always watch the planets of your horoscope that are aspected by an eclipse, what house those planets fall into, and the houses they rule, for even more, detailed information regarding their effect on your life.
For example, if the lunar eclipse of June 4, 1993 at approximately 13°55′ Gemini/Sagittarius occurred on your first/ seventh house axis, and also squared your Venus in the tenth house, with Venus ruling your twelfth house, you might not only experience changes in your personal identity, but also opportunities for a new relationship that has a spiritual dimension (twelfth house). This relationship may also act as an asset in your public and professional life (tenth house).
An important predictive technique is to go back in time about 19 years to when an eclipse was possibly hitting approximately the same place in your horoscope, when the transiting nodes were at the same positions. For example, on June 4, 1974, we had a lunar eclipse at 13°54′ Sagittarius, very close to that June 4, 1993 lunar eclipse at 13°55′ Sagittarius. There may be a correlation between the events that you experienced during that time (1974-1975) and the events that are currently at work in your life.
Once either the lunar or the solar eclipse activates a certain point in your chart, you may experience some type of major change related to that point either 3,6,9, or 12 months later. These simplified 3-month periods are associated with the New or Full Moons that, later, square, oppose, and again square the original lunar or solar eclipse degree.
Quite often the lunar eclipses become active within 3 to 6 months after their occurrence, but the solar eclipses seem to have a much longer-term effect. An eclipse (either lunar or solar) will also have a longer-term effect if it is the first in a new series (such as the November 13,1993 solar eclipse in Scorpio), or the last in a series (such as the May 25, 1994 lunar eclipse in Gemini/Sagittarius). Some examples of major changes that occurred on the ‘last’ hits in a series have been the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl in 1986 and the Stock Market crash of 1987.
Another important thing to watch for are the transits of planets over eclipse points soon after the eclipse occurs. For example, if Venus transits over the eclipse point first, the experience of the eclipse may be more positive, but if Mars transits over that same point first, the effects may be more startling or difficult.
Let me mention one more thing about eclipse hits in the horoscope. Some peoples’ horoscopes ‘activate’ early and others ‘hit off later. Sometimes the effects of the solar eclipse will be felt an entire month before the precise hit occurs, and other times the effects may follow it.
How the November Eclipses Affect Your Chart
If either the solar or lunar eclipses of November are precisely hitting your FIRST HOUSE, or aspecting your first house ruler, look towards a new identity, new confidence, a new look, and a new independence of thought in the succeeding quarters.
In the SECOND HOUSE, or aspecting the second house ruler, expect to become aware of new values, cash flow opportunities, new possibilities for discovering your hidden gifts, skills and talents that will help you and others with their resources. There is a new view of your personal value as an individual that changes the scope of how you work effectively in the outer world.
In the THIRD HOUSE, or aspecting the third house ruler, there is the possibility of beginning some course of study that will result in a license or a credential. You may also be inclined to write a “how-to” manual, re-organize your books and records, write poetry, articles, or essays– even lyrics may arise. It is important now to become aware of how you process information, how you can use your mind more efficiently, and how you can improve and hone your current communication skills.
In the FOURTH HOUSE, or aspecting the fourth house ruler, you may experience an awakening or change concerning one of the birth parents, or the possibility of either moving, remodeling your current domain, going into real estate. or taking the time to withdraw from the world so you can regroup and rebirth when the eclipse moves out of your fourth. You may begin a new business at home as a kind of side light that becomes more manifest as the eclipse moves out of the fourth. There is often the need to spend more time at home, to form a nest, particularly when the transiting north node is moving through the fourth.
In the FIFTH HOUSE, or aspecting the fifth house ruler, there is the possibility of new birth–either a baby of your body or a baby of your mind may occur. This, of course, is the more traditional view as are new possibilities for play and romance, but there is also the possibility of realizing the child within and moving into a space where you are more apt to take gambles and risks. This is also the place where speculative ventures or risks might be kicked off as well as the possibility of becoming involved in some type of meeting planning or convention planning project. Avocations can become vocations with emphasis in this house.
In the SIXTH HOUSE, or aspecting the sixth house ruler, new systems or methods of work may be utilized, and scheduling and time management issues become more important. The turnover rate of employees at your company will probably increase. You may also become more aware of environmental concerns both at work and at home.
Your concerns turn to matters of health, exercise and diet–“cleaning up your act,” so to speak. Health issues that need to be addressed may take much of your time during these transits. In your home, you may have to deal with the health or care of smaller, domesticated animals.
In the SEVENTH HOUSE, or aspecting the seventh house ruler, you will discover new opportunities in either long-term personal or professional associations– you are in a partnering mode. There is a new desire to partner with others and work on die area of committed relationship. If there is an already existing relationship, the opportunity to renew or redefine it comes at this time. If one of the partners does not want to work on the relationship, difficulties can arise.
In the EIGHTH HOUSE, or aspecting the eighth house ruler, there are new opportunities for your partner to increase his or her resources, settlements of lawsuits, dealings with estates or legacies, and investing in long-term goals. The liquidation of frozen assets may occur, or your company may offer you an early retirement with an opportunity to cash in on your retirement fund.
There is a new view of sexuality as sacred, and the rediscovery of your deepest, most sensual feelings can transform your current reality.
In the NINTH HOUSE, or aspecting the ninth house ruler, there may be opportunities to write, teach, and lead people into their visions. Long distance relocations may occur, and opportunities present themselves from some distance away.
You may begin to work in public relations, professional sales training, and consulting, as well as the legally-related professions. New in-laws or concerns about in-laws may prevail, or you may experience die birth of a third child. Direct mail and mail-order businesses may be in the offing.
In the TENTH HOUSE, or aspecting the tenth house ruler, it is possible to light up your career and finally receive the recognition for which you have so long worked. A new career opportunity may surface, or you may lose a long-time boss or become a boss yourself.
Again, there may be concerns around one of the birth parents–their health or personal situation.
In the ELEVENTH HOUSE, or aspecting the eleventh house ruler, friends and members of the community may come to your assistance to help you advance your career. It becomes more important now to contribute to the collective or the community in some way. This is also a good time to improve your social life.
In the TWELFTH HOUSE, or aspecting the twelfth house ruler, you may feel a deep need to withdraw and re-group for a while. The Hindus believe that this house is related to the conception of ideas and children, and so these opportunities may present themselves to you.
The twelfth house is the ‘toxic waste management station,’ where all things must filter through before they begin anew in the first house. You may find yourself cleaning out closets and letting go of possessions, or re-connecting with your psyche through dreams, meditation or hypnotherapy. This is a wonderful time to see a good psychotherapist, as the past may return to be dealt with.
Your innate creativity can be released in this house and you may find yourself again picking up paints, oils, crayons, etc., as you did so long ago, to help you rediscover your deepest soul needs.

So what is the best time to start anything?
That question is one of the primary questions we are asked as astrologers. And as astrologers we struggle to find that right moment and the best time in view of what we have to work with in order to accommodate our clients. As astrologers we frequently face the fact that despite our clients’ needs, incorporating stressful cycles that are disharmonious and often long term, are inevitable. You can’t say, “Wait for three more years”, when they are ready now.
In the late 1980s we faced this difficulty when several outer planets aligned forming synodic conjunctions quite rare and very challenging. Electional charts were needed then as they are now with the current square between Uranus and Pluto. We need to be strategic and position these anomalies in an electional chart allowing them to become more positively proactive rather than negatively reactive. Bottom line: There is no perfect chart and the clients must understand that.
Another important part of this process is knowledge of the electional moment’s history. What leads to this decision in the individual’s chart is also important and by looking at the progressions that led them to this decision is value added information which is applied to your calculations. And, finally, applying those same progressions or solar arcs as well as eclipse hits to the future of the proposed chart gives an added edge confirming the viability of the elected chart.
And, finally, it is important to engage our clients in the process of designing a chart that works for them, making them do some of the work so that our work is better. If the client is unwilling to give you time frames, birth data, or doesn’t have time to work with you, then it is in your and their best interest not to take that client. Yes, we don’t have to take all the clients that want to work with us, particularly when it comes to the electional process.

When I was twelve, I read many books and paperbacks which I purchased from the local drugstore and which, at that time were the only available “new” knowledge in my environment. Among my favorites which made the greatest impact, were the small paperback books about astrology, Betty Friedan’s “Feminine Mystique” and Edith Hamilton’s “Greek Mythology”.
What an eclectic assortment!! And what a lasting impression when you combine all three approaches of these books–the order of the universe as denoted through the signs of the zodiac, new views from a feminine perspective that were gleaned from the traditional and more patriarchally based Greek Mythology and literature !! What an impact these words had on me at the impressionable age of 12 through 14. It began a time for me that separated my thinking processes from everyone else in my environment. It was the beginning of independent thinking.
Even less known was the direction and the resulting magic seeds that were planted in me at that time. Those seeds grew into a career as an astrologer who interprets old stories and translates them into modern language and pictures. Each one of the books had their merits, but the one that most deeply impacted me was the book about Mythology.
I moved into a world of imagination beyond imagination–that fourth dimension, where suddenly everything is related to everything in the cosmos and one realizes there is a true pattern to everything.
It opened something up inside of me that I can only term “ancient memory”. This is something that we all have and what Carl Jung referred to as the “Collective Unconscious.” Continue reading →

Astrology is the study of diversified cycles. These many different cycles dance and inter-weave with each other through time. This is why we can sometimes make “predictions” about business and economic trends along with the more personal evolution of an individual.
One cycle, which is predictive in nature, is the Lunar Node Cycle, which seems to determine various general and business trends, influences career decisions, and has a historical nature, particularly when being aspected by outer planets. In addition, this particular cycle travels with the transiting eclipses (it is, after all, a ‘lunar node’ cycle). Its precise cycle is 18.6 years (when the lunar nodes return to the same position), and can also be divided into an approximate 9.3 year cycle, or, about 1/2, or the reverse position of the current lunar node cycle.
Each nodal return spends approximately one and one-half years in two opposite signs of the zodiac as it moves in an apparent backward motion and includes two opposite signs of the zodiac during its travels.

This article approaches the upcoming first quarter square between transiting Uranus and Pluto from the perspective of potential financial and economic changes. In order to do so, we must first examine the difference between a first quarter square and a last quarter square. Then we must review the basic natures and reactive states of both Uranus and Pluto as they engage in an historic confrontation rare in history. These two titans have been approaching each other for quite some time, and are currently in the final crescent phase of their relationship. They will not reach their official exact square until June 24, 2012, which continues through March 16, 2015.
