The Cradle and Moments of Clarity
As I write this, the Cradle—a supportive configuration of positive aspects between the outer planets—is unfolding. It began at the end of last week and is often associated with a sense of invisible protection: the reassurance that things are working out, even when they do not yet appear to be. It may also bring welcome clarification about the directions we need to take, especially as transiting Mercury goes direct this week on Thursday, July 23, at 6:52 PM Eastern Time.
Personal Momentum
For me, that clarity has begun to show up around the classes I have been struggling to write for the 2026 United Astrology Conference (UAC). After several weeks of wrestling with ideas—and, admittedly, boxes of notes, the bane of my existence, I finally started shaping material that can fit into the 70 minutes allotted for each lecture. And it began flowing as The Cradle started its rare configuration. How about you? Any new momentum or direction?
Where Clarity May Be Emerging
Perhaps you have had a similar experience: trying to move something forward but feeling unmotivated or missing key information. This rare configuration, made up of several sextiles—60-degree connections between planets—may be helping to clear mental fog and reveal where to go next, what to say, or what action to take.
The Gift of Sextiles
Sextiles are a lovely aspect because they bring together two important ingredients:
- Your abilities and readiness to respond.
- Opportunities that may be presented over the next few weeks.
Mercury goes direct at 16° Cancer on July 23, then returns to its retrograde starting point on August 7 at 26° Cancer 15. This occurs just a few days before the total Solar Eclipse at 20° Leo on August 12. More on that as we get closer.
Pay Attention to What Comes In
But first, more about the Cradle. Pay attention not only to what you are doing and whom you are reaching out to, but also to what—or who—is reaching out to you. The next few months may offer more choices than you initially believed were available, especially since the Saturn/Neptune conjunction at 00° Aries in late February. Now that Saturn has started to separate from what can sometimes begin in fog and confusion is re-forming itself.
Mercury Direct and Saturn Retrograde
Next week brings a great deal of movement. Mercury stations direct on July 23, and Saturn stations retrograde on July 26. Saturn is constructive when retrograde because it often helps us get things done.
Saturn stops at 13° Aries, nearly in the middle of the sign, then retreats to 7° Aries before going direct on December 10, 2026. This late July to mid-December window—about five months—offers the annual opportunity to put plans from the beginning of the year into motion.
The Lunar Nodes Shift into Aquarius and Leo
Aquarius: A Wider Public Voice
Finally, on Sunday, July 26, the long-awaited transiting Lunar North Node—often connected with the public response to events—moves back into Aquarius for 18 months. Since Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, this can be a time of sudden openings, fresh ideas, and new ways of looking at what is possible. It is also a good time to welcome different organizations, communities, or friends into the mix. Their varied interests may help broaden your perspective and open the door to more creative, innovative options.
Leo: Taking Stock of Excess
At the same time, the transiting Lunar South Node shifts into Leo. This asks us to take an honest look at where “karmic hubris” may be showing up. The South Node often clears away what no longer works in the area of your chart where Leo falls, while helping you hold on to what truly matters.
Over the next 18 months, it may be worth asking yourself:
- How much fun is too much fun?
- How much is too much?
- Where might pride or ego stand in the way of larger cosmic possibilities?
This nodal shift comes around every 18.6 years and often marks a period when the public voice becomes stronger. For context, think back to 2007–2008, 1988–1989, 1970–1971, and earlier cycles. It should be an interesting week.
