Fall Equinox occurs after the extraordinarily strong Solar Eclipse, the day before, at the last degree of Virgo – the Anaretic degree, where everything culminates before the beginning of the Autumn season in the Northern Hemisphere. Equinox means equal day and equal night and from this point until December 22, the days will become shorter succumbing to the night and shadows we cannot see. An eclipse at the intense degree of Virgo, ruled by Mercury, the planet of discrimination, analysis, communications, pushes each person to discern between what one will keep, and save from their harvest and what will be discarded as the struggle for survival begins as night descends. In many ways, this eclipse and the gradual descending darkness of the season prompts each person to take an inventory about what to maintain, keep and what to release, particularly since this eclipse is at the sign of Virgo – the sign of cleaning house, storing food for winter, organizing systems and making systems right that aren’t working.
As the week continues and the Sun continues in the sign of Libra, an air sign and as it begins a wonderful trine (triangle) energy to the current transits of Uranus in Gemini and the transit of Pluto in Aquarius, creating clarity in communications, media, and hopefully bursting forth with countermeasures threatening the dark energy of the Virgo eclipse, where communication and free speech faced challenges in these last few weeks.
An interesting note is that the Constitution had a birthday on September 17, 1787, and that chart was lit up with not only transits, but also secondary progressions and even solar arcs. I find it interesting that this eclipse from September 21 and the one that preceded it on September 7 (A Total Full Moon Eclipse) lit up the chart of the Constitution raising questions of how strong a document it is.
Virgo to Libra energy embodies both the energies of the Virgin goddess who carries her staff of wheat and invites in the scales of justice represented by the sign of Libra. In Egyptian mythology, when an individual was ready to pass to the underworld – their heart would be measured on a scale and on the other scale was placed a feather. If the heart of the individual was heavy outweighing the feather, then they needed to go through a purification exercise before being allowed entrance into the underworld. If their heart was equal or lighter to the feather, they entered immediately.
This story which always resonates with me is particularly strong right now – the issue of justice, what is right and wrong, what to keep and what to discard is something that each individual is asked to do during such a powerful series of eclipses offering preparation for the first eclipse in Aquarius, ruled by Uranus, which happens in February 2026 the day after a direct hit from Uranus, the planet of sudden unexpected change on February 16, 2026. What loads can you lighten between now and the middle to end of December 2025 when the 90-days of the eclipses are activated and what loads can you further drop by February’s eclipse. Get it done – is all I have to say.
You may feel depression or inertia right now with all the news bombarding you from every direction and feel frozen and think you are unable to make changes, but baby steps in taking apart a daunting task brings change more steadily than looking at the entire ‘elephant’ and wondering where to start. Use your smarts over the course of the next few weeks as the Sun travels through Libra working with the other two signs of the zodiac to move more effortlessly through space.
You can find yourself in a never-ending black hole of emotions – both globally and personally – trying to move forward while struggling to choose a right road. So, turn off the noise, don’t allow for distractions, getting more sleep is suggested since Saturn has now returned to Pisces and Neptune will soon follow suit as it returns to Pisces until spring. Pisces needs sleep, or time around from the maddening crowds – this, above anything else, will help you regroup as you move through this challenging time.
Since Uranus (the awakener) has been traveling through Gemini since July 1 and continues through November 7 – your ideas are clearer now – and may, in fact, point you in the right direction as to what to do. The big question for each of us to address is “What is most important right now?” “What is constantly taking up space on your head?” The messages of Virgo are clear – do something – even if you must start with little, tiny steps.
Clean out the ‘stuff’ that isn’t working or that you don’t want because transiting Mars in Scorpio is in a hard square to Pluto as it conjoins the Moon this week needs a project. Petty arguments can blow up into big storms of anger if you don’t put the brakes on control issues.
Take advantage of the gift of Uranus still in Gemini, an air sign, as it, in this next week, trines (good energy) transiting Pluto (Aquarius) and as the Sun in Libra moves into a trine with both this week. They are in energy – so they have to do with ideas, communication, travel, and clarity in agreements that may bring resources for your next move.
For me, I loved seeing clients this summer and, alas, have completed my client work for this year as this new season begins. I have just finished writing and putting together my annual 2026 Starcycles Cheat Sheet, which you can download here. We raised the price a bit this year because it is a lot longer and took a lot more time to write. The price is still an affordable $10, and it downloads directly into your computer.
The next project is finally getting back to a book on archetypes we find as we walk through life – I put it off too long – because I couldn’t get the context or format but am clear now as to the approach. Thus, the shift in my schedule. I hope to complete it by UAC 2026 in Chicago in early September.
